Description

The EB-109 is a single board, comprehensive instructional module designed to teach basic concepts of MOTORS AND GENERATORS to technology students.

The module can be operated as a stand-alone unit or integrated to the EB- 2000 Computer Managed Laboratory.

Objectives

  • Calculate the speed of a DC motor

  • Calculate the speed of an AC generator

  • Determine the back-emf and the resistance of a DC motor

  • Determine the back-emf constant K of a DC motor

  • Use the back-emf constant K to calculate the motor speed

  • Understand the effect of increasing the AC generator load on DC motor speed and current Understand the effect of increasing the mechanical load on DC motor speed and current

  • Understand torque and power in a DC motor and AC generator

  • Measure the speed regulation of a DC motor as its load changes

  • Measure the efficiency of the DC motor AC generator combination

  • Measure the input power of the DC motor and the output power of the AC generator

  • Understand the speed-frequency characteristics of an AC synchronous motor Understand the torque phenomena in the AC motor

  • Use a DC motor as a generator

  • Understand the effect of mechanical and electrical loading on the speed of an AC synchronous motor Determine the efficiency and maximum power output for the DC generator Understand the effect of closed-loop control of speed with increasing mechanical load

  • Observe the effect of different error amplifications on the closed loop

  • Understand the effect of closed-loop voltage control with various loads and different amplifier gains Understand the effect of overflow in closed-loop control

  • Understand how the speed of a DC motor may be controlled by varying the duty cycle of its power supply, this technique is also called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM)

  • Detect faults in a motor-generator system
