The system fosters an understanding of the concepts, maintenance procedures and logical troubleshooting techniques needed to maintain and repair today's complex diesel truck starting and charging systems. The Diesel Truck Starting and Charging course is designed for students who have completed the Degem Diesel Truck Electrical Wiring Course or equivalent and have an understanding of basic electrical concepts. Description The Training System consists of a training simulator, courseware package and computer. The Training Simulator presents a diesel truck starting and charging system. All major components involved in these systems are covered. The simulation demonstrates the effects of malfunctions and environmental conditions such as temperature. Built-in test equipment allows in-circuit checks of current and voltage while varying the system's electrical load. Panel controls allow belt tension to be tested and the fuel level to be checked. A video monitor and keyboard provide the instructor with an efficient lab management system. The Competency Based Courseware Package includes a student lab manual, instructor's manual and user's guide. The Lab Manual, used in conjunction with the training simulator, provides a complete course of study from basic concepts learned through system experiments, to troubleshooting exercises using flowcharts. The Instructor's Manual provides guidance in the effective use of the training system. Complete experiment results, answers to questions and troubleshooting flowcharts are also included. System components The student panel pictorial displays a typical diesel truck starting and charging system. Components, connectors, terminals and test equipment within the system are clearly and realistically portrayed to maximize training effectiveness. Displayed components include:
The student panel built-in test equipment includes:
Experiment Mode Degem competency-based curriculum includes a student lab manual with illustrated experiments. Each experiment in the lab manual has an objective, set up procedure, technical discussions and lab worksheets for the student's measurements. Student questions and chapter summaries are also included. The experiments cover the following areas:
Troubleshooting Mode The EB-610 training system allows abnormal operation scenarios to be quickly selected by the instructor. Conditions difficult to create with actual equipment or mock-ups can be created repeatedly using the simulator. Nineteen malfunctions cover the following areas:
A customer complaint panel displays the symptoms caused by an inserted malfunction:
Tracking Student Performance Degem training system provides the capability to track student activities. The selected experiment's elapsed time and the replace/repair attempts are tracked by the computer. The student’s name, activities, date and class can be displayed on the monitor and printed on the optional printer to provide a permanent record of the student's performance.
