The training system teaches the concepts, maintenance procedures and troubleshooting techniques needed to maintain and repair today's automotive electrical accessories systems. The Electrical Accessories training system is designed for students who have completed the Degem Electrical Concepts training system covering basic electrical/electronic concepts and measurement techniques. Description The Training System consists of a training simulator, integrated competency-based modules and a personal computer. The Training Simulator presents typical electrical accessories found in a modem automobile. The panel includes wiper/washer, AM/FM tape, speed control, power seats with memory, automatic light control and power windows. The simulation demonstrates normal and malfunctioning electrical accessory systems. Measurements are made with a built-in digital multimeter. The Competency-Based Courseware Package includes a student lab manual, instructor's manual and user's guide. The Lab Manual, when used in conjunction with the training simulator, provides competency-based modules that can be used in a wide variety of curriculum situations. The student is taken from concepts learned through system experiments, to troubleshooting exercises using the task-efficient simulator. The Instructor's Manual provides guidance in the effective use of the training system. Complete experiment results, answers to questions and troubleshooting exercises are also included. System components A pictorial on the student panel displays typical automotive electrical accessories. Components, connectors and terminals within the system are clearly and realistically portrayed to maximize training effectiveness. System components include:
Experiment Mode The Degem competency-based courseware includes a student lab manual with experiments illustrated with schematics and diagrams. Each unit in the lab manual includes a title, prerequisites, objectives, technical discussion, terms to know and remember, simulator tasks and discussion questions.
Because the simulator is task efficient, the student can acquire competency more rapidly than with any other training method. Troubleshooting Mode The electrical accessories training system allows the instructor to insert malfunctions with an ease and versatility unavailable on actual equipment or mock-ups. With the touch of a button the instructor can create malfunctioning electrical or mechanical components. The training system builds logical troubleshooting skills, a necessity for today's fast- paced and competitive job market. The 25 malfunctions available are divided into the following categories:
The student is able to concentrate on troubleshooting tasks. The causes and cures of the malfunctions come sharply into focus. The student can safely practice troubleshooting techniques without damaging the training system or requiring constant supervision. Tracking Student Performance Degem training system provides the capability to track student activities. The selected experiment's elapsed time and the replace/repair attempts are tracked by the computer. The student’s name, activities, date and class can be displayed on the monitor and printed on the optional printer to provide a permanent record of the student's performance.
